Writers write
I daydream about the ideal writing excursion. In this fantasy, I’m traveling. Maybe I’m in Italy or New Zealand, sitting in a cafe while I’m sipping a coffee and getting some words down.
Or, more realistically, I’m in the United travel lounge at Denver International Airport. It doesn’t have to be international travel, or even a vacation. I find it genuinely easy and enjoyable to get into the zone while waiting for my plane to board.
Still, I’d be happy to get 4000 words per novel done that way.
Ninety-nine percent of the time, I’m going to be home. I’m going to be fitting in my writing between going to the gym and sitting down at my computer to start the work day. During that time, I’m going to probably have to get up a couple of times to make my wife coffee and deal with whatever mess my cat decided to make.
I make things as good as I can, and I have it pretty good. Enjoy it when the stars align and you get in a perfect session in the ideal environment. At the end of the day, writers write.
