A new Stargate show is on the way

It looks like there’s going to be a new Stargate television series on Amazon Prime. I gotta tell you, this is exciting for me. I was a big fan of Stargate SG-1. I felt it was strong most of the way through. While I’m definitely more of a fan of seasons 1-7, the last three seasons were still good. They even managed to completely close the open story threads in two follow on movies that went straight to DVD. I hate it when a story is left without an ending, and thankfully, that didn’t happen here.

Stargate SG-1 had a good through line, a story that spanned multiple seasons. It also had “one off” episodes that were just good sci-fi action fun. The main characters were likable. There was humor - it didn’t take itself too seriously. It never got political or preachy. I liked Stargate Atlantis for many of the same reasons. Stargate Universe… er, let’s just say it was difficult to root for anyone in that show. It’s been a while, but I think they’re going for a grittier tone. For me, it was barely Stargate.

I hope this new series really treats SG-1 as its inspiration. Seeing this done with some cameos from the original cast, and modern special effects, could be really awesome!
