Why I write about dinosaurs
One of the few constants about me through my entire life is a fascination with dinosaurs. I read every dinosaur book in both my school and public library. At one point, my parents took away my copy of Jurassic Park.
Fair enough. I guess I needed to branch out a little.
All the same, my writing feels like it’s going really well right now and I can point to a few key reasons:
- I’m learning from people who’ve been there - writers who’ve become successful at publishing - either from their books or YouTube channels.
- I’m not waiting for perfection. I’m writing now, adjusting as I learn from those successful writers and treating myself graciously. Yeah, I have stuff to learn. I always will.
- I’m writing about what I like.
I still like dinosaurs. I think they’re cool. They’re like dragons, only they actually existed. They’re mysterious. They’re awe-inspiring. Furthermore, it’s exciting to write about them. I really like the idea of my latest novel, and as of this writing, I’ve just crossed easily into the last 25% of the first draft.
A big part of that success was having a good outline, sure. The other part surely lies in writing something that I would like to read.
